Missed chances cost

MISSED chances and a key decision again provided the talking points as Evesham United lost 3-0 at promotion rivals Didcot Town.

The Robins had nothing to show for bossing the opening exchanges with another flurry of openings following after Didcot had enjoyed a strong spell of their own.

A big shout for handball went up when Mat Liddiard's goal-bound effort was cleared off the line and United's fortunes did not improve after the break.

Lewis Hayden picked up on a loose ball to release Felipe Barcelos who rounded keeper Kevin Sawyer before tucking in from the left side of the box 23 seconds after the restart.

Within another five minutes, Didcot had doubled their lead when George Jeacock headed in Marlon Agyakwa's corner.

Evesham had another effort cleared off the line before Ollie Thomas administered the coup de grace with a 25-yard blockbuster at the death.

“I thought we played well, especially in the first half," said Robins boss Paul Collicutt.

“We created chances for Adam Mann, Carl Brown, Lewis Binns, Jordan Bryan and Mat Liddiard as well as a very strong penalty shout turned down.

“I don’t know whether it was or wasn’t but the lads were adamant it was handball, as did a few of the supporters.

“That said, the worst thing you can do when that situation arises is to stop playing which was what we did.

“Everyone appealed because they were that sure but no one thought to attack the ball after the incident which would have given us another opportunity.
