The former England star and regular face on Sky Sports has agreed to help the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central club "get back on its feet" at a fundraising dinner before the end of the season after 20 incidents at the ground in 2016 cost approximately £25,000 to put right.
The 48-year-old, who also played for Aston Villa and Portsmouth as an attacking midfielder and playmaker, is set to entertain supporters with tales from his colurful career at the Hampshire club on Saturday April 22 after being contacted by Farnborough chairman Simon Gardener who's been publicising the club's plight in the media in recent weeks.
The event is being organised the club's new social secretary Gary Thornton who was appointed after launching a GoFundMe online fundraising campaign before Christmas in the wake of the latest attack by vandals which destroyed a toilet block, pictured.
The incident is estimated to have caused £15,000 in damage and Thornton said: “He’s doing a reduced rate for us to try and help out and get the club back on its feet, and it is something we’re really grateful for. The chairman knows him personally and gave him a call to set it up and, thankfully, he’s agreed to do it – we’re all really excited.”
Tickets for 'An Evening with Paul Merson' are now on sale priced at £25. For more information visit: www.farnboroughfc.co.uk.
