Macca is back as number two

Hayes & Yeading United have named Gary MacDonald as their new number two for the upcoming 2016-17 EVO-STIK League Southern season.

The popular player-coach returned to the SkyEx Community Stadium as assistant manager over the weekend as United boss Mickey Lewis continued the club's preparations to bounce back from relegation from National League South in April.

The defender was a key figure on the pitch and in the dressing room in his second spell with United before leaving last year to join EVO-STIK League Southern Slough Town.

The 36-year-old kicked off his career at Portsmouth before turning out for Havant & Waterlooville, Peterborough United, Stevenage Borough, Woking and Ebbsfleet United.

He signed for United for the first time in 2008 and went on to play for Kingstonian, Metropolitan Police and Walton Casuals before returning for his second spell in 2014.

A club spokesman said: "Obviously we welcome Gary back to United as a new era dawns on and off the pitch."

United have also confirmed the arrival of two experienced players for the forthcoming campaign in the shape of keeper Louis Wells from Leatherhead and defender Curtis Osano who has been playing in the I-League in India with Bengaluru FC.

Dylan Kearney, Cole Brown, Matt Sinclair and Cole Brown have also been retained by Lewis from last year's successful U18s side.
