Linnets march on

The Linnets followed up their magnificent victory at Hereford on Saturday with a hard fought victory in a scrappy encounter with play off rivals Slough at The Walks.

The win takes the Linnets back to within 4 points of leaders Hereford, their game at Biggleswade falling victim to the weather.

Manager Ian Culverhouse spoke after the game and had this to say.

“The boys where outstanding and to carry on where they left on Saturday is fantastic, The pitch was diabolical for both teams it wasn’t much of a spectacle for the fans unfortunately but we’ve found a way to win that’s what good teams do, And were a good team.

“Beating Hereford and now Slough tonight, shows that we can compete and we’ve got nothing to fear, we are just taking it one game at a time and as long as we turn up and compete and be competitive in every game then we’ve got a good chance.

Lynn started the game the brighter and created the first opening, Michael Clunan firing straight at visiting keeper Jack Turner after being played in by Toby Hilliard.

Slough looked dangerous on the break, forcing three early corners which ultimately came to nothing.

In the 64th minute a foul on Norman almost by the corner flag resulted in a free kick to The Linnets. Clunan’s flighted ball into a packed box was flicked on by Ryan Fryatt, and Ward applied the final touch past Turner to give Lynn the lead.

As the home side celebrated the goal, Lench was shown a second yellow card for dissent and forced the visitors to see out the final 25 minutes with ten men.
