League Cup midweek review

By David Watters

Chesham United, Egham Town and Aylesbury United made progress in the EVO-STIK League Southern's Southern League Cup this midweek, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

On Tuesday night, Premier Division Chesham United warmed-up for Saturday`s Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at home to Division One Central side Potters Bar Town by beating the same opponents on their own patch in the competition's first round.

However, both teams will be almost entirely different when they meet again on Saturday, with the Generals making changes to all eleven starting positions from the team that drew with Merthyr Town in the league last weekend.

Youngster Michael Gorniak proved to be the visitors` hero with a hat-trick, opening the scoring in the very first minute, netting a 33rd minute penalty after Jack Lyons had equalised in the 18th minute.

He completed his first senior triple five minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game after Kennedy Steele-Dadzie had levelled again for the Scholars 10 minutes into the second half.

Egham won 2-0 at Honeycroft against Division One Central rivals Uxbridge, Gareth Chendlik the Sarnies` hero on the night after bagging both of the goals in the 61st and 82nd minutes.

There were no goals in Wednesday night`s tie at Thame between Division One Central hosts Aylesbury United and Division One South & West strugglers Wantage Town. So it was to penalties and the Ducks ran out 5-3 winners to take their place in the second round.
