Generals account for cup windfall

Appointed in June following a shake-up of the club's structures, the long-term Generals fan updated supporters after Chesham United chairman Brian McCarthy promised to spend much of the cup cash they'd earned for flying the EVO-STIK League Southern's flag as far as the second round on facilities at The Meadow.

The Generals beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 at the Memorial Stadium before losing 4-0 at Bradford City in December and Brown, the owner of Asprey Harris Insurance Consultants, informed fans on Friday in the club's latest online bulletin.

Ahead of Saturday's home game with Weymouth, he wrote: "For the first time I write to let you know the current situation at the club as to where the money is and where it has been spent. We believe you the fans and supporters need to know where we are at present and intend to go forward too.

"I am aware that the chairman promised £20,000 from the FA Cup monies towards the clubhouse. So to let you know the current situation, the Supporters Trust have recently issued the club with a cheque for £5,500 making a total available of £25,500."

The finance director went on give details of how more than £15,000 had already been spent on new flooring and windows and 'Earthquaking' treatment on the pitch to solve the drainage issues that led to a number of postponements last season.

Signing off by calling for feedback from fans and their continued backing for the club's plans, he added: "I hope that you are pleased with what has happened to date and we endeavour to raise the income required to continue with the funding level of the team and updating the facilities. If any of you can help in anyway please do not hesitate to contact us at the club. If you have any comments please reply to the club in the usual way."

The Generals were voted this year's FA Cup Giant Killers of the Year for their 1-0 first round win at League Two Bristol Rovers back in November. Manager Andy Leese, assistant Jon Meakes, chairman McCarthy and striker Ryan Blake, who scored the winner, are pictured being presented with the accolade at half-time during May's FA Cup Final at Wembley between Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
