Members of the Stratford Town Independent Supporters Club turned out at Stratford High School to present orange club beenie hats to the Stratford Specials to reward them for their growing success ahead of their appearance on Friday night (Feb 17) at the 2017 Stratford-upon-Avon District Council Sports Awards when they could be crowned 'Senior Team of the Year'.
Sponsored by Stratford's Vesuvio Caffe, the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division club's learning disability section were already on the up before being put forward for the accolade with nearly 40 boys and girls playing in two teams in the Stourbridge and District Ability Counts League at the Portway Leisure Centre in West Bromwich.
Delighted officials from Stratford Special FC's, whose young stars compete in the league's 7-a-side and 5-a-side competitions, say they players are thrilled with the support from fans of the senior club at The DCS Stadium.
Stratford Special FC chairman Martyn Brookhouse has also been nominated for a coaching accolade at the 15th running of the annual awards and he said: “This will give everyone a tremendous boost and we are very grateful for STISA for their generous support.”
His STISA counterpart Rob Maisey, pictured helping one of the players try on his new headgear which matches their training kit, said: “This evening emphasises that STISA wishes to offer help and assistance to every level of the club, and it is humbling to see how much joy these hats have given to this wonderful group of players.”
STISA was established an Independent Supporters Association to strengthen the voice of supporters in the decision making process at our club and build links with the community it serves. A democratic association, STISA's other main goals include raising funds for furthering the on and off field success of the club and providing voluntary support.
