Dual role for returning Rebel

Versatile former Football League defender Tom Williams will coach as well as play for EVO-STIK League Southern Slough Town after returning from a spell in America.

The 36-year-old was welcomed back to Arbour Park in a new player-coach role this week after first arriving in March and impressing fans with his performances before heading to the US to turn out for for Arizona United over the summer.

Born in south London and a Cyriot international, Williams played in defence and midfield for a number of clubs in the Football League including Peterborough United, Queens Park Rangers, Barnsley and Swansea City. In Non-League, he's also appeared for Kettering and Guildford City.

The third-placed Rebels are backing Williams to be a great asset for joint managers Neil Baker and Jon Underwood and their promotion-chasing squad ahead of hosting Kings Langley on Saturday in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight.

A spokesman said: "We are pleased to announce the return of Tom Williams to the club, who will take on a player-coach role. Most will remember Tom from his excellent performances at the back end of last season before going out to Arizona to play full-time.

"His experience and contacts in the game - having played over 350 Football League games - will prove a huge help to us on the management team, and once he gets back to fitness from a knee operation, he will also become a playing option."
