Double Blow For Taunton

By David Simpson

Two players leave

Evo-Stik League South West leaders Taunton Town will need to replace former Bristol Rovers player Ross Staley, who netted a hat-trick in the Peacocks` excellent 4-0 win at AFC Totton on Saturday.

Staley has landed himself a coaching job in Australia and leaves on January 23rd, while Matt Villis has ‘retired.’

Twenty-four-year-old left-sided attacking midfielder Staley has been playing at left-back for Taunton who are firm favourites for the championship.

Staley’s other clubs include Hereford United, Shortwood United, Paulton Rovers, Gloucester City and Yate Town.

Meanwhile, centre-back Villis, who joined the Peacocks in November 2015, has announced his retirement from playing.

The former Plymouth Argyle, Weston-super-Mare, Tiverton Town and Bideford defender made over 70 appearances for Taunton, but has featured infrequently this season.
