Defender Hall Dons The Gloves To Help Chesham Earn A Point

In a very tight race for a play-off place below fourth-placed Kettering Town, Chesham United knocked Royston Ton out of fifth spot but were held to a second successive draw – this time by mid-table Hitchin Town at Top Field on Monday night.

Saturday saw the Generals drop two home points to Dorchester Town in a 2-2 draw and this time there were no goals, although the visitors did find a new hero in defender Matt Hall, who was forced to don the gloves for the final 20 minutes or so following an injury to Harry Isted with no sub keeper on the bench.

Hitchin snapped up two young midfielders from EFL clubs in time to play, but although both Luton Town`s Kavan Cotter and MK Dons` Hugo Logan both did very well on debut, it was clear that the Canaries need additional firepower in attack.

The best chance of the opening half went to Chesham when David Hutton`s run and cross was fired just wide by Jefferson Louis.

Hitchin `keeper Michael Johnson did well to save from Lewis Toomey and Hutton in the second half before Hall`s heroics at the other end ensured the points were shared.
