Day: Promotion still a long way off

Farnborough manager Spencer Day was taking nothing for granted as he prepared his side for the EVO-STIK League Southern's promotion play-offs.

Day, whose runners-up host Egham Town at Cherrywood Road in the semi-finals of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central play-offs on Wednesday, knows his side have the upper hand after earning home advantage and having beaten their opponents 4-0 at home already this season.

After seeing Perry Coles and Jamie Cureton both help themselves to hat-tricks in a 6-1 win over Beaconsfield SYCOB on the final day of the season, Day also knows his side are in top form to reach the play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday against either Barton Rovers or Marlow.

Day, pictured, told fans on Wednesday: “They pushed for automatic promotion and last year missed out in the play-offs so they have that experience, they beat Barton at the weekend. We know they are a good side on a great run.

"They will come here and try and spoil the party. We know we are favorites but we know the amount of times a team finishes second and doesn’t go up.”

The Sarnies under the guidance of Gary Meakin aren't in bad form either having booked their berth in the play-offs for the second season in succession after beating third-placed Barton Rovers on the final day of the campaign on Saturday and all five of their matches in April.
