Dan Brownlie joins Basingstoke

By David Simpson

New First Team Coach

The club are pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Brownlie as First Team coach to Jason Bristow. Dan joins after leaving Hartley Wintney FC where he enjoyed successive promotions as joint manager.

Dan has spent nine seasons with our newly promoted neighbours, as a player, a coach and for the past three years joint-manager.

Dan said “Simply put, I can’t wait to get going. Jason and I have had a good relationship over the years and when he and Terry spoke with such passion about the club and their vision for it, it’s left me itching to get started. I obviously loved my time at Hartley and I’m very proud of what we managed to achieve whilst I was there. Luke Mullen (Chairman) handed me a real opportunity and I leave with only positive things to say about the club. Now, my focus is on Basingstoke and the exciting future we have ahead of us. I’m looking forward to getting in and working with Jason and the boys, the Camrose staff, volunteers and hopefully this time round get on the right side of the Basingstoke fans!

Jason said, “I am really pleased to have the opportunity to bring Dan into the club and look forward to him working with me”.

Director of Football, Terry Brown said “Sometimes in football, opportunities come up that are too good miss. I have to say I was amazed when I heard the news that Hartley were about to part company with Dan, without doubt the most successful manager in the clubs’ history. Dan has unearthed some of the best local players and overseen their progression into the Southern League – a league that contains not only ourselves but several big hitters with lofty ambitions. Jason and I spoke about the feasibility of utilising Dan’s coaching ability to benefit Basingstoke. Phone calls to players who have worked alongside Dan confirmed how successful and popular he is both on and off the pitch. Dan will join us as our First Team Coach, working closely with Jason, bringing with him some fresh ideas and a winning mentality.
