Council cash boost for pitch plan

Dorchester Town's officials are pushing ahead with plans to install a 3G pitch after their local authority agreed to pick up half the bill.

The Magpies took another step towards their goal of becoming a community football hub this week before their 1-0 reverse at St Ives Town in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight on Saturday when West Dorset District Council pledged 50 percent in grant funding.

The decision has been hailed as a “a great achievement” by delighted club officials who will now move ahead with plans to raise a further £252,000 towards the cost of a 3G pitch at the Avenue Stadium with some funding already in place.

Once installed, the new state-of-the-art surface will allow Dorchester Town Youth Football Club to train and play at the stadium every week as well being used by other clubs, community groups and organisations to strengthen the club's local links and generate a valuable new revenue stream.
