Cleeve pay first half penalty

By David Simpson

Lot of effort fails to land a point

Bishop’s Cleeve’s situation at the bottom of the table was made no better following a home defeat to fellow Gloucestershire side Yate Town.

Cleeve thought they’d taken the lead in the opening three minutes but Elliot Kennedy saw consecutive shots land on the line, not over.

Yate then took the lead slightly against the run of play when Ben Tunnicliff handled a shot off the line and Steven Davies stepped up to give the visitors the lead from the spot.

Davies doubled the hosts’ lead shortly afterwards with his second and Yate could have extended the lead before half time but Cleeve held on till the break.

Cleeve were the better side in the second half and looked to get back into the match. Substitute Jamie Lock nearly made an instant impact bit saw his shot well saved by Harvey Rivers in the Yate goal.

Lock, Kennedy, Romayne Thomas all saw further shots saved whilst Yate failed to extend their lead with Davies seeing several chances to complete his hattrick come and go.
