Cleeve add a defender

Into the fray

Bishop's Cleeve have completed the signing of Joe Noakes from Gloucestershire rivals Shortwood United.

The defender appeared 14 times in all competitions in the first half of the season for the Wood.

Cleeve boss Steve Cleal believes sides coming to Kayte Lane will be wary of being the Mitres' next scalp.

Winchester City are next up, currently sitting seventh in the league following their 2-0 defeat to Slimbridge on Wednesday.

Cleve put Mangotsfield United to the sword with Ieuan Crowe, Harrison Iddles, Joe Bates and Jack Watts getting on the scoresheet.

Cleeve have only won two games all season, but both have been emphatic 4-0 wins.

Cleal insists it is about getting on the front foot early in games, he said: “We played on the front foot and weathered the early storm. It was a great win.

“We played at Winchester earlier in the season and both teams ended up with 10 men. They scored from a corner that wasn’t one, but they controlled the game anyway.”

“They won’t be looking forward to playing us after a result like that. They’ll be wary of losing, becoming another of our scalps.”

The Mitres are bottom of Southern League Division One West as it stands, six points behind Barnstaple Town with a game in hand.
