City Hang On To Make Top Six Spot

Wednesday Review

Cambridge City are assured a place in the Evo-Stik League South East play-offs at least after beating a youthful Northwood side by the odd goal in five at Chestnut Avenue on Wednesday night.

The Woods are building towards next season but produced a spirited display against a City side who are now undefeated in nine league matches.

And they had the early edge as Salim Relizani cracked a 25-yard effort past Woods `keeper Borja Loeches-Teixeira after just 5 minutes.

And on 33 minutes, Ryan Sharman set up Ebby Nelson-Addy to make it 2-0 from close range after Loeches-Teixeira had spilled the ball.

But right on half-time, Wilson Chingoka pulled a goal back for Woods to give them a boost.

However, just 3 minutes into the second period, City restored their two-goal advantage when James Hall scored a cracking goal.

Evans Kouassi made for a nervy finale when he reduced the deficit to just one with 11 minutes to go with a fine strike from 18 yards.

But City held firm and are fifth, five points behind the second automatic promotion spot with four games remaining – one of which is against leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds at St Ives on Saturday.
