Evo-Stik League South Premier club Basingstoke Town have announced the signing of defender Tom Leggett on non-contract terms until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old, who is most comfortable at right-back while also occasionally playing in midfield, was a free agent after having spent time on trial with Vanarama National League side Eastleigh over pre-season.
Leggett has previously been part of the youth set-ups at Southampton and Aston Villa before being released from the Midlands club at the end of last season.
After progressing through the Saints academy and captaining their under-18 side, he moved to Villa in 2014 and became a regular for their under-23’s in Premier League 2, making over fifty appearances, captaining the side and training with the first-team.
During his time there he also received a call up for the Wales under-19’s, playing for them in their Euro Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign.
Subject to league approval he will be available to go straight into the squad for the visit of Hereford FC tomorrow.
