It’s been a ‘rollercoaster ‘of a week for Swindon Supermarine during which time the side were ruthlessly hammered at home 0-5 by fellow promotion hopefuls Bideford last Saturday, which then led to Dave Webb being released from his Team Manager duties on Tuesday, before the players showed great character to battle out a 3-3 draw at fourth- placed Evesham in awful conditions on Wednesday night under the ‘caretakership’ of Lee Spalding.
This Saturday, the team takes on in-form Yate Town at The Webbs Wood Stadium (kick-off 3pm) in another massive game for the club in their pursuit of possible promotion to the Southern League Premier Division.
Under the guidance of former Bristol Rovers Academy Head Paul Britton, the visitors are unbeaten in their last six fixtures and sit only 3 points behind Marine on 38 points, whilst Marine moved up one place to 8th in the standings after their 3-3 draw at Evesham.
The two sides met at Lodge Road back on Saturday, 11th November, when the home side ran out 2-0 victors in a game that Marine dominated for long periods but were unable to convert the numerous chances they created, striking the woodwork twice, before Ryan Morgan was harshly penalised for a handball on the edge of the penalty area, having had the ball blasted at him close-range! Steve Davies dispatched the penalty before t then curling home his second on the counter in the last minute as Marine were pressing for an equaliser.
With former Marine keeper Harvey Rivers performing heroics in goal for ‘The Bluebells’ and top scorer Ben Brooks (12 goals) on fire up front, Spalding’s side are in for a tough encounter and will need to repeat the effort and attitude shown at Evesham if they are to gain anything from the contest.
