Cambridge City striker will be like a new signing

When fit ?

Striker Ben Seymour-Shove has been told to remain patient as he will play a vital part in Cambridge City’s promotion run in.

The former Peterborough United youngster signed from landlords St Ives Town in December but managed only three appearances, and one goal, before being struck down by a groin injury.

Seymour-Shove, who has also played locally for Huntingdon Town and Soham Town Rangers, could now return for City’s Southern One Central game against Hayes & Yeading tomorrow.

“Ben may be in contention for a place on the bench and he’s champing at the bit,” said assistant manager Neil Midgley. “He’s been really frustrated with his injury but he’s also got to be patient.

“He’s not 100 per cent fit, but when he is he will be like a new signing. We’ll need everyone fully fit for the run in, so it was probably a good time for him to be injured, before the fixture congestion hits.”

Jack Vasey is, however, set to miss out with a thigh strain against a side two places and three points above city in the table, and who they lost 3-1 to in the reverse fixture on Hallowe’en night last year.

“This will be a big one for us in terms of our promotion hopes. They’re a side with a big budget for this league and a high turnover of players,” said Midgley.

“We didn’t do ourselves justice in the game at their place, so we now have a big opportunity to put that right and take three points off a promotion rival
