In light of the sad news, Fleet's fixture with Farnborough FC was postponed with the agreement of both clubs and the EVO-STIK League Southern.
The biggest crowd of the day in the division came at the Glassworld Stadium where second-bottom Histon met leaders Royston Town.
In front of a gate of 293, James Carman gave the Stutes a surprise half-time lead. Ryan Ingrey after 66 minutes and then Scott Bridges four minutes later, won it for the Crows who lead the table by three points.
Kempston Rovers are third after winning 2-1 at Creasey Park against sixth-placed AFC Dunstable, whose Jermaine Hall put them in front just before the break. Danny Watson equalised on the hour-mark and Sam Johnson won it for the Walnut Boys five minutes later.
Beaconsfield SYCOB made it eight successive wins and 17 goals in their last three matches by hammering Kidlington 6-0 at Holloways Park.
It was only 1-0 at half-time through Guri Demuria. But just two minutes into the second half Charlie Losasso doubled that and SYCOB added further goals from Aaron Berry after 55 minutes, a Callum Bunting brace on 73 minutes from the spot and 80 minutes, and a second for Demuria two minutes from time.
Aylesbury United won local bragging rights over Aylesbury FC after a 3-0 win at Thame which leaves the Moles third-bottom, albeit twelve points clear of Histon.
A crowd of 256 saw goals from Sonny French in the first half and Bruno Lobo Brito and Ryan Kinnane in the second period for the Ducks.
Elsewhere, Bedford Town maintained county supremacy by winning 2-0 at Arlesey Town, taking the lead immediately after the break from a Kenny Orenuga penalty and adding a second from Lee Roache on 63 minutes.
And it finished all-square in the derby between Ashford Town (Middx) and Egham Town in which the visiting Sarnies took a 31st minute lead through Jordan Berry, only for Dan Fleming to level from the spot 18 minutes from time.
