Blues look to extend unbeaten run

Martyrs next up

BLUES will look to extend their five game unbeaten run when they host Merthyr Town on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Merthyr have overcome a mid-season financial crisis which saw them lose 13-1 at Chesham, and three places about Stortford with 47 points from 39 games.

When the sides met on Loadlok Community Stadium artificial surface they shared the spoils after a goalless draw .

The Martyrs made little progress in the two FA competitions with a win against Willand Rovers being followed by a loss against Havant & Waterlooville in the Cup and a first stage loss against Taunton Town in the Trophy.

Merthyr Town are another recently formed club in 2010 in place of the bankrupt Merthyr Tydfil. The new club chalked up league titles in each of their first two seasons, winning the Western League Division One and Premier titles before getting out of SL South & West section at the third attempt.

Last season saw the Martyrs highest ever finish but there was no fairytale end as a crowd of 1,454 saw them lose on penalties in the play-off semi-final against visitors Hitchin Town. Crowds at Penydarren Park were up 15 percent to an average of 493
