Battling Out a Boggy Draw

By David Simpson

Soggy,and soggy ?

In the Evo-Stik League South East on Wednesday night, Cambridge City were forced to settle for draw against Kempston Rovers on a soggy Westwood Road pitch.

In a game swiftly re-scheduled after being postponed on Easter Monday, Rovers took the lead on the half-hour mark when a free-kick was pumped into the Cambridge area and City struggled to clear the ball which fell kindly for leading scorer Jake Newman to smash home from close range.

But City pulled level immediately after half-time when a free-kick was headed home by the division`s leading marksman, Ryan Sharman.

The game fizzled out and ended in a draw on a pitch that made any kind of football difficult.

The point lifts City back into the top six on goal difference and keeps Rovers in ninth place, still with an outside chance of making the play-offs if results go their way.
