However, in the end, the Peacocks will be happy to have travelled back down the M5 with a point after being 2-1 down with less than a minute left to play.
It was a frustrating first half when neither side could create much in the way of chances, although Taunton `keeper Lloyd Irish pulled off a fine save to deny Marley Thomas just before the break.
On 65 minutes, Peacocks` sub Ben Palmer hit a powerful effort from 30 yards, drawing a great save from Ollie Hall in the home goal.
And 5 minutes later the deadlock was broken, but it was at the other end when Taunton were caught out on the break and Thomas smashed the ball past Irish after a fine solo run.
But in the 78th minute, the visitors were back on level terms when sub Omar Simpson found the bottom corner with a fine strike.
However, just 3 minutes later, another swift counter attack saw Thomas restore the Swans` lead when he curled the ball it into the bottom corner.
That looked like being the winner, but a minute from the end of normal time,
Pierce Mitchell headed home at the far post from Brett Towbridge’s free-kick to earn the leaders a share of the spoils.
Mid-table Kidlington came away from Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium with an excellent 3-1 win against one of the promotion favourites, Evesham United, who were looking to slip into second place with a victory.
After starting brightly, the visitors found themselves behind to an Ethan Moore header in the 25th minute.
And the hosts that came nearest to increasing their lead in the second half when a snap-shot from Moore cannoned off the crossbar in the 62nd minute.
Kidlington’s were rewarded for their determined play though when Roger James lashed the ball home after he got on the end of a free-kick from Lewis Coyle in the 69th minute.
Coyle and James combined again, the latter playing the ball into the box to the unmarked Anaclet Odhiambo, who made it 2-1 to the Greens in the 79th minute.
The icing was put on the cake in the 87th minute when a Roger Martin cross found Darius Browne who buried the ball into the back of the net for 3-1.
Wednesday`s other game saw Didcot Town come back from two-down to win 3-2 at Larkhall Athletic and move into third place.
Delays getting to the ground saw a number of Didcot players turn up just 20 minutes before kick-off and they made a slow start.
The hosts took the lead in the 2nd minute through Cory Simpson and doubled their advantage just 3 minutes later through Joe Tumelty from the penalty spot.
Marlon Agyakwa scored his first goal in Didcot colours in the 10th minute before levelling the game half-hour mark in with his second.
And then another recent recruit, Felipe Barcelos, turned the game in Didcot`s favour with 12 minutes to go and they hung on to claim the spoils.
