We probably dodged a bullet

Fitter squad for run in

WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admits the Terras “probably dodged a bullet” ahead of their Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division clash at Redditch United tomorrow (3pm).

Molesley’s comments were made in reference to Saturday’s postponement of the match against Kettering Town as the squad would have faced three absentees due to illness in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Calvin Brooks, Josh Wakefield and Tiago Sa were all unavailable but the latter two were on the bench for the 5-0 thrashing of Gosport and Sa came on in the 66th minute while Brooks was absent entirely.

Explaining their absence Molesley said: “Brooks went down ill after the Slough game actually so the one positive with the Kettering game being off is we would have ended up being light. So it might have been a blessing in disguise that the game was called off because we had three go down ill.”

“Wakefield was deemed not fit enough to get on the pitch against Gosport but he was ready if we needed him.

“Luckily we managed to get another day’s rest into him. Sa came off the bench against Gosport, he was ill and probably was not available on Saturday either so we probably dodged a bullet with that game.

“The boys will be freshened up and we should have them back in time hopefully for (Redditch).”

The postponed fixture will be played on Thursday, April 19 which will give the Terras two away trips in three days as they also face a trip to Kings Langley two days later.

However, the rearranged date means a frantic finish for their play-off rivals Kettering, who face Weymouth at the beginning of a run of six games in the final 14 days.

The fixtures include trips to Hereford and King’s Lynn Town, the only two teams currently above Weymouth and Kettering, while they play in the final of the Hillier Senior Cup against Brackley Town on April 10.

The hectic run could prove decisive as while Weymouth currently sit five points ahead of the Poppies they have also played three games more than their future opponents.
