Poppies Return To Winning Ways – Bulls Up To Fourth

There were just two matches in the Evo-Stik League South Premier on Halloween Night, but both had significance near the top of the table.

Kettering Town travelled to the ProKit UK Stadium to take on Bishop`s Stortford not exactly in prime form, having been beaten by Leek Town in the Buildbase FA Trophy last Saturday and having been held to goalless draws in their previous three league matches.

Well, they broke their scoring famine and returned to winning ways and third place, courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Aaron O’Connor opened the scoring for the Poppies with his 11th goal of the season after 24 minutes.

And then a Rhys Hoenes effort in the 51st minute eventually proved enough.

In the evening`s other game, Hereford FC moved into fourth, level on points with Kettering, after a routine 2-0 win at Edgar Street against second-bottom Dunstable Town.

In front of 1,686, it wasn`t quite as easy as many though it would be ahead of kick-off and the visitors battled hard, holding the Bulls to 0-0 at the break.

But just 2 minutes after the restart, Hereford broke the deadlock with a Lance Smith penalty.

And then Keyon Reffell made sure with a second 9 minutes from time and the Bulls can now turn their attention to Saturday`s Emirates FA Cup First Round tie at home to Vanarama National League North side AFC Telford United.
