The Martyrs were reeling from conceding five without reply at Kettering last weekend, and looked as though they were going to take their anger out on the Rebels as they raced into an incredible 4-0 lead by the 21st minute!
Ian Traylor topped and tailed the scoring in the 5th and 21st minutes, with Momodou Touray and a Mark Nisbet own goal sandwiching them.
But a quite incredible Rebels fight back in the second half saw Nathan Smart pull the first one back 5 minutes into the half, Chris Flood on 62 and Warren Harris on 72 minutes reduce the deficit to just one, and then James Dobson equalise with a minute of normal time remaining.
And 3 minutes into time added on at the end of a breathless encounter, Dobson grabbed his second and Slough`s fifth to win the game.
After scoring five against Merthyr, the leaders were held to a goalless draw at the Carlsberg Stadium against Biggleswade Town.
However, the Poppies did miss a 26th minute penalty for a foul on Aaron O`Connor.
But former Wader Rhys Hoenes saw his effort saved by Liam Gooch.
Hereford FC are a point further back in third after a superb 20-yard strike from Keyon Reffell just after the half-hour mark eventually earned them all three points at the Spence Stadium against Banbury United.
King`s Lynn Town are three points behind the Poppies in fourth after they won 2-0 at The Walks against last season`s play-off finalists Hitchin Town.
A crowd of 1,067 saw Craig Parker break the deadlock 11 minutes into the second half.
And 15 minutes from time, Michael Gash added the Linnets` second to confirm victory.
Third-bottom St Ives Town suffered a 2-1 defeat at Garden Walk by Royston Town.
Adam Marriott gave the Crows an 8th minute lead that James Hall cancelled out 11 minutes later.
But a second by former Cambridge United striker Marriott with 17 minutes left sealed the home side`s win.
Second-bottom Dunstable Town picked up only their fifth point to date after sharing a 2-2 draw at St Neots Town.
A Taylor Parr own goal gave the Duns a boost in the 10th minute.
Tom Meechan equalised on the quarter-hour mark and then, after 65 minutes, Dylan Williams gave the Saints the lead.
But an Arel Amu penalty 14 minutes from time salvaged a point for the Duns.
It finished all-square too at the ProKit Stadium where loanee Giuseppe Iaciofano maintained his good form by giving visiting Chesham United a 31st minute lead against Bishop`s Stortford.
But the Blues battled back to level through Mark Hughes 19 minutes from the end.
