Tuesday's Premier Division Review

By Jack Moore

There were only four matches in the Evo-Stik League South Premier on Tuesday night, but they produced 20 goals between them as leaders King’s Lynn Town opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the table after their biggest win of the season to date.

The Linnets travelled to a mid-table St Noets Town outfit who were protectin a six-game unbeaten run in the league.

Simon Lappin gave the table-toppers a 10th minute lead with an effort from the edge of the box.

But the turning point in the match came right on the stroke of half-time when the Saints had midfielder Taylor Parr dismissed with a straight red card for a foul on Cameron Norman.

Just 3 minutes after the interval, the ten-men fell further behind when Craig Parker made it 2-0 and then on 69 minutes Michael Gash latched on to a cross from Norman to make it 3-0.

Tom Ward headed in a corner for the Linnets` fourth on 74 minutes and Leon
Mettam added a fifth just 2 minutes later.

Kettering Town moved back into second spot after beating St Ives Town 4-1 at Latimer Park in front of a crowd of 499.

Like at St Neots, the Poppies only led 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a 17th minute Aaron O`Connor effort.

But 9 minutes into the second period, Rene Howe doubled the home side`s lead and on 73 minutes, Ben Milnes added a third and Rhys Hoenes a fourth just 9 minutes later.

The Saints scored an 88th minute consolation when a free-kick from Phil Draycott looped straight through keeper Paul White’s hands.

Chesham United moved up to eighth place and recovered from back-to-back defeats to beat Frome Town 5-1 at The Meadow and leap-frog the Somerset outfit in the table as a consequence.

Shane Bush gave the Generals a great start with an opening goal inside 3 minutes.

Bush doubled his and Chesham`s lead 8 minutes later and Ben Crilley made it 3-0 with just 18 minutes gone on the clock.

Frome managed to stem the tide and keep it to three at the break.

And it was the visitors who struck next, when Jon Davies pulled one back in the 76th minute.

But just 3 minutes later, on-loan Giuseppe Iaciofano restored the Generals` three-goal lead and Scott McGleish made it a nap hand 4 minutes from time.

Banbury United also moved above Frome into ninth spot after winning at Merthyr Town`s Penydarren Park for the first time in 34 years!

A crowd of 379 saw Conor McDonagh give the Puritans a 23rd minute lead that Luke Carnell quickly doubled 4 minutes later.

The battling Martyrs kept going though and it was they who eventually scored the next goal in the 81st minute through Ryan Prosser.

But Leam Howards restored Banbury`s two-goal lead in the 88th minute, although

Merthyr nearly had the last word though when in the 2nd minute of stoppage time a Prosser header from close range hit the post.
