Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Amazingly, given all the rain during the preceding 24 hours, all the games in the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division went ahead as scheduled on Tuesday night, wriutes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And it proved to be a decent night for third-placed Slough Town as they won 2-1 at Stratford Town, while the top two both dropped points.

Leaders Leamington were held to a 1-1 Penydarren Park draw by fourth-placed Merthyr Town.

A crowd of just under 500 saw Ryan Prosser give the Martyrs the boost of an early fifth minute lead. But Darren Pond equalised after 20 minutes and that`s how the scoreline remained.

Second-placed Chippenham Town were on the end of a shock result as they became only bottom-markers Cinderford Town`s third victims of the season to date.

Gethyn Hill gave the home side a 20th minute lead that Andy Sandell cancelled out from the spot seven minutes later. But that`s as good as it got for Chippenham until six minutes from time when Alan Griffin scored their second.

By then though, Cinderford had scored twice more through Blaine Waugh after 34 minutes and Hill again nine minutes after the break. The Foresters are still a dozen points adrift of the safety-mark though despite their win.

Slough`s night didn`t start well, however, as they trailed to Richard Gregory`s 26th minute effort right until 16 minutes from time when Warren Harris popped up with the equaliser.

And just three minutes later, Elijah Adebayo grabbed the Rebels winner to move level on points with Chippenham and four behind Leamington with a game in hand.

Hitchin Town were another top five side to lose on Tuesday, 2-0 at The Meadow against Chesham United.

Sam Youngs gave the Generals a 22nd minute lead that Ryan Blake doubled four minutes after half-time.

Sixth-placed Frome Town were looking to put pressure on the top five when they made the trip to the Bob Lucas Stadium to take on Weymouth.

But goals from Charlie Davis on 35 minutes and Ben Thomson nine minutes into the second half saw the Terras home, despite Nathan Summers` 75th minute response.

Dunstable Town are now level on points with Frome in seventh after Sam Doolan`s 76th minute effort won the game at the Spencer Stadium against Banbury United.

Redditch United are also level on points with Frome and Dunstable after winning 2-1 at Latimer Park against inconsistent Kettering Town.

James Brighton gave the Poppies the perfect start when he put them in front inside the opening minute. Apostolis Apostocopolous eventually pulled the visitors back on level terms just shy of the hour-mark and Max Loveridge won it for Redditch with three minutes remaining.

Cirencester Town moved out of the bottom four after a 4-1 win at the Corinium Stadium against fellow strugglers Dorchester Town, with whom they are now level on points.

Aiden Bennett put the hosts ahead after 16 minutes and 12 minutes later Jamie Chamberlain had them two-up. New loan signing Will Hancox added Ciren`s third on the hour-mark and Chamberlain`s second just three minutes later sealed the points, with Ollie Bassett netting a 75th minute Magpies consolation.

The evening`s other game produced nine goals as Biggleswade Town won 5-4 at Kings Langley.

Conrad Lucan gave the Waders a fifth minute lead but they found themselves 3-1 down by the time Inih Effiong scored their second on the hour-mark after goals from Steve Ward on 27 minutes, Jamie Calvin five minutes later and Immanuelson Duku three minutes after the break.

Top scorer Tony Burnett immediately equalised for the Waders and Rhys Hoeness put them in front again on 75 minutes. Dean Hitchcock levelled three minutes later but Effiong`s second of the game three minutes after that won it for Biggeleswade.
