Top Four All Lose!

It was a strange Saturday in the Evo-Stik League South East with the top four at the start of play all losing!

Indeed, only AFC Dunstable and Chalfont St Peter managed to win in the top six.

Leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds suffered defeat for the first time in twenty league and cup games as they went down 2-1 at the Runnymede Stadium to an Egham Town side who hadn`t won in nine!

And Ashley Lodge goal after 20 minutes gave the Sarnies a lead that Joel Gyasi cancelled out in the 40th minute.

But Egham were only on level terms for 2 minutes as Michael Kalu restored their lead – and it was one they held.

Second-placed Beaconsfield Town were beaten by the odd goal in seven by Diamonds` neighbours Kempston Rovers at Hillgrounds.

Robbie Goodman netted a hat-trick for the Walnut Boys, with Tre Mitford and Callum Webb reducing the deficit to one.

Ben Shepherd made it 4-2 in the 78th minute, and Kempston survived, despite an 86th minute third from Luke Neville.

Hartley Wintney went down 3-1 at sixth-placed Chalfont, whose Jake Cass gave them an early 8th minute lead.

Alan Hedley added a second after 23 minutes and after Tyron Smith had reduced the deficit 9 minutes later, a Ryan Haugh goal 18 minutes from time settled the points in the Saints favour.

Hayes & Yeading United were the other top six side to lose as they lost 2-1 at home to Ashford Town (Middx).

Goals in the opening 7 minutes from James Cottee and Romario Jonas stunned the hosts, whose Manny Duku replied after 21 minutes.

AFC Dunstable moved above Hayes & Yeading after beating Uxbridge 2-1 at Creasey Park with a Terry Griffiths brace on 33 and 70 minutes sandwiched by a 62nd minute Dylan Kearney reply.

Seventh-placed Cambridge City also lost, 1-0 at Thame United, whose Dan West scored the only goal after 16 minutes.

Early season leaders Moneyfields are now back to within a couple of points of Cambridge in eighth after they won 2-0 at struggling Aylesbury FC with goals from Steve Hutchings after 43 minutes and a late Howard Neighbour effort.

Bottom side Arlesey Town are looking like needing snookers to avoid the drop after losing 2-0 at home to Aylesbury United, whose Sonny French bagged a brace in the 27th and 38th minutes.

It didn’t help Arlesey`s cause that second-bottom Barton Rovers found some form to beat Marlow 4-0 at Sharpenhoe Road with goals from Robbie Parsons in the first half and Andrew Phillips, Ben Sawyer and Danny Jarvis in the second.

Third-bottom Fleet Town shared a 0-0 draw at Calthorpe Park with fourth-bottom Hanwell Town.

And in the day`s other game, Bedford Town won 2-1 at Chestnut Avenue against Northwood with Steve Gentle`s 55th minute opener for the Eagles being cancelled out by Mesach Williams in the 86th minute, only for veteran striker Paul Benson to win it for the visitors 4 minutes into stoppage time.
