Top Field Plays Perfect Host on NLD

By Jack Moore

With the big boys having a weekend off because of World Cup qualifying fixtures, this worthy initiative backed by many gently persuades football lovers to sample the wonders of their local non-league club in the flesh.

The nationwide project that started in 2010 and has grown year-on-year, encourages fans of league clubs to experience the delights of small, unsung teams away from the 92 professional outfits across England.

Hitchin Town, having supported a national charity last year they decided to support a local charity this year and sought the views of local councillors Judi Billing and Ian Albert. With their help they chose Stevenage Haven who provide and run the day to day operational services for the homeless hostel in Hitchin.

Representatives from The Hertfordshire FA presented a cheque for £300 to Stevenage Haven at half time. This comes from the profits of the Herts Charity Cup.
