Match Preview

The next side to feature at the Premier Plus Stadium this Saturday will be first time in the league visitors’ Tiverton Town. The Devon outfit were promoted from the South and West Division at the end of last season through the end of season play-offs defeating neighbours Taunton Town and favourites Salisbury to earn a second spell at this level of football and have taken the Premier Division by storm.

As high as third place in the table early in December they have faded slightly with four defeats in their last six outings but are still ninth in the table just two points shy of the play off places.

However, this is two places, but six points ahead of Matt Clements’ side – and they have two matches in hand. It will be Tiverton’s second visit to the town because four years ago they arrived for a midweek second leg of the Red Insure League Cup Final. The first leg in Devon two weeks earlier had seen a competitive 0-0 draw and St Neots eased to a 1-0 cumulative victory thanks to a 43rd minute Lewis Hilliard goal.

Tiverton, like St Neots, are currently competing at the highest level of football in their history and when the two sides met at Ladymead earlier this season the result was a 2-1 victory for St Neots with a rare Ryan Horne double securing the points from a 410 miles round trip.

In the week following this match St Neots have two very tough away trips to Hereford and Slough both of who are fancied to feature amongst the honours at the end of the season.

St Neots know they will be without skipper Luke Knight dismissed at Weymouth and Scott Sinclair may also struggle to be fit in time for selection following his hamstring injury.
