The Terras have recorded some impressive pre-season results in prepartion for the 2016-17 campaign in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight - on Saturday beating National League South Truro City 1-0 after drawing 2-2 with League Two Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
Matthews’ side open up with a tough trip to Biggleswade United this Saturday and the player-boss - who's also confirmed he's still planning to keep goal next term - has high hopes as kick-off fast approaches.
Matthews, who was “delighted” with Dan Smith after his winner took down Truro, said: “There are positive signs. Pre-season has been enjoyable even though we know all too well that these results mean nothing once the first whistle goes in the league game on August 6. We are ready for what’s ahead of us. It’s a long old season but if you make a good start, you give yourself a chance of success."
The Terras boss, pictured on Saturday, added: “There are still one or two places up for grabs for the first day of the season but the squad is good and the mood is positive. We’re going into it with our eyes wide open but with confidence.”
