Evo-Stik League South West leaders Taunton Town must have thought their advantage at the top would be cut on Tuesday after they could only manage a 2-2 draw at Paulton Rovers.
However, they returned to the dressing room to discover that second-placed Salisbury FC had been beaten at in-form Didcot Town.
But it could have been worse for Taunton as they found themselves 2-0 down inside 12 minutes following goals from Dale Evans and former Peacock Omar Simpson who scored with a fine volley.
Recent signing Keith Emmerson netted goals in the 77th and 78th minutes as Taunton hung on to their unbeaten away record in the league – and stretch their lead at the top to nine points following the White`s 3-1 set-back at Didcot.
George Jeacock gave the Railwaymen an early 9th minute lead that he doubled in the 28th minute.
Stuart Green reduced the deficit 4 minutes later, but Felipe Barcelos made it 3-1 in the 62nd minute, meaning Didcot have suffered just one defeat in twelve and are now fifth.
It got even worse for Salisbury when they had Kane O`Keefe dismissed with a straight red card for a two-footed challenge shortly after coming on.
A place above them on goal difference are Evesham United, who won 3-1 at Cinderford Town.
And they had to come back from being a first-minute Nick Rhodes goal down.
Crucially, Carl Brown levelled within 2 minutes and Adam Mann had Evesham in front just before the break, with Ewen Dunbar making the points safe with a third goal 5 minutes from time.
Second-bottom Barnstaple Town and third-bottom Mangotsfield Town shared a 1-1 draw in Devon – Billy Hopcroft`s early 7th minute opener for Barum being cancelled out by Tom Warren 7 minutes into the second half.
And it also finished honours-even between Shortwood United and Slimbridge, where there was also an early goal as Sean Lawson gave the visiting Swans a 3rd minute lead.
Will Hawes equalised 10 minutes later, only for Lawson to bag his second in the 35th minute.
And they held that lead until 3 minutes from the end when Jordan Morris popped up with United`s leveller.
