Bring in two players

Swindon Supermarine boss Dave Webb was delighted to add to the strength of his squad this week with two new additions.

The club confirmed the signings of Matt Coupe from Cirencester Town and former Reading youngster Harrison Bennett, but the news was partly offset by the departure of Lee Marshall.

But boss Webb said he was thrilled with his two new additions, and hopes the experienced Coupe can help mentor some of Supermarine’s younger players throughout the season.

“It strengthens the group even further,” Webb said. “I’m really pleased with the two additions.

“We’ve brought in Matt Coupe and Harrison Bennett, there’s a vast difference in age but not in quality.

“Matt is very experienced, his CV as a player in his non-league career is excellent.

“I’m hoping he can come in and work with some of the younger players, hopefully he can pass some of those experiences from his career on so that was the reason we brought him in.

“His experience will help everyone at the club to improve and obviously he will try to play as many games as he can.”

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Bennett featured in pre-season for Supermarine, with Webb pleased to have finally secured his services.

“Harrison is a player that I wanted to sign in the summer but it didn’t quite happen then,” he said.

“He decided to take a few months out, he’d been at Reading for 10 years, one year as a pro, and that didn’t work out for him.

“He has come back, it’s just a matter now of getting his fitness levels up. He’s a very talented player and I’m really pleased to get him in.”
