Swindon Supermarine joined champions Taunton Town and runners-up Salisbury FC in winning promotion from the Evo-Stik League South West after beating Wimborne Town on penalties in Bank Holiday Monday`s play-off final.
In front of a crowd of 1,272 at The W+S Stadium, the Magpies were fairly confident going into the tie, having beaten `Marine both times in the regular season.
But as history has proven, previous results count for little in the play-offs, and it was goalless after an even first half with chances for both sides, but neither able to make any count.
The second half was just as end-to-end, with Wimborne`s top scorer Toby Holmes almost breaking the deadlock with would have been a spectacular goal when he spotted the keeper off his line, but his long-range chip went just wide of the far post.
Holmes was involved in another major incident 5 minutes from the end of normal time when he broke away and was pushed to the ground just outside the box. Swindon skipper Zak Westlake was shown a straight red card and sent-off for the challenge.
But neither team were able to break the deadlock and it was into extra-time.
Despite being down to ten-men, `Marine held firm and took the tie to penalties.
Sadly for him and Wimborne, Luke Burbidge has his penalty saved by Josh Hill to leave Supermarine 4-3 shoot-out winners.
