Former Eastleigh reserves and Romsey Town boss Wayne Mew guided the Stags to a vital 3-1 home win over Slimbridge to lift them off the bottom of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West table after temporary boss Andy Darnton took a pre-arranged break for the half-term school holidays.
Darnton, pictured below, has been steering the ship since Steve Hollick departed the Testwood Stadium three weeks ago. He is also away for Tuesday’s trip to Didcot Town when Mew will step in again after guiding the club to their second three point haul of the season.
Darnton, who arrived as assistant manager in June, has been holding the fort since Hollick left by mutual consent last month after their 6-1 defeat at the hands of Wimborne Town at the Testwood Stadium.
A former defender with more than 700 games at EVO-STIK League Southern level under his belt, Darnton is looking forward to seeing midfielder Charlie Gunson in action when he returns after signing the former England U18 schoolboy international. Gunson started the season at Gosport Borough before recently returning to play for his old club Andover Town.
