Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Leamington moved smoothly on at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division table to head into the festive season seven points clear after a 2-0 win at Kings Langley on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Recent recruit from Stratford Town, Richard Gregory, bagged both of the Brakes goals in the 10th and 19th minutes.

Second-placed Slough Town edged a five-goal thriller at Arbour Park against Kettering Town in front of a crowd of 588.

Charlie Moone gave the home side the boost of an early second minute lead. Moone doubled Slough`s lead on the half-hour mark and when James Dobson made it 3-0 just shy of the hour-mark, it looked done and dusted.

But Aaron O`Connor reduced the deficit in the last minute and then fellow striker Rene Howe made the home fans sweat when he pulled a second back three minutes into stoppage time.

Chippenham Town met Hitchin Town at Hardenhuish Park and David Pratt`s 74th minute effort saw the Bluebirds swap places into third spot.

Merthyr Town moved above the Canaries into fourth after a 3-0 Penydarren Park win over fourth-bottom St Neots Town.

Ian Traylor gave the Martyrs a 37th minute lead that Kayne McLaggon doubled three minutes into the second half. Elliot Richards made it game over with a third nine minutes from time.

The top five hold a four-point lead over sixth-placed Frome Town, who won 2-0 at Creasey Park against Dunstable Town – Jake Jackson just before the break and Ollie Knight five minutes after it were the visitors` marksmen.

At the other end of the table, bottom-markers Cinderford Town suffered a 4-0 defeat at Banbury United, whose Conor McDonagh and Ricky Johnson both bagged braces, while second-bottom Cambridge City gave themselves a pre-Christmas boost with a 2-1 home win over fifth-bottom Cirencester Town.

Charlie Woolfe was the City hero with a brace in the 14th and 40th minutes – Alan Griffin replying five minutes from time.

Third-bottom Hayes & Yeading United halted their slide and their awful recent defensive record by holding Stratford Town to a goalless draw.

Weymouth, another side sliding down the table, shared a 1-1 home draw with St Ives Town.

It was like London buses at the Bob Lucas Stadium as Stuart Fleetwood gave the Terras a 54th minute breakthrough that Josh Dawkin cancelled out within a minute!

Soon to be managerless Dorchester Town shared a 3-3 draw at The Walks against King`s Lynn Town, taking an early third minute lead through Tom Blair.

And they showed spirit to come back from Ryan Fryatt goals after 42 and 68 minutes, sandwiched by a 60th minute Michael Clunan effort, that had given Lynn a 3-1 lead. Jake Smeeton and David Jerrard pulled the Magpies back on terms in the final 15 minutes.

Reece Hales` 25th minute effort eventually proved enough for Redditch United at the Camrose against Basingstoke Town.

Elsewhere, Inih Effiong grabbed a stoppage time equaliser for Biggleswade Town after Russell Short`s 20th minute opener had been overturned by Chesham United`s Drew Roberts from the spot six minutes later and then Ryan Blake on 53 minutes.
