Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Chippenham Town lead the way in the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division after they ended Leamington`s unbeaten start to the new season on Saturday.

David Pratt`s 33rd minute goal in front of 364 at Hardenhuish Park eventually proved enough for the Bluebirds to maintain their good start and inflict a first defeat on the Brakes.

Merthyr Town are third after recording a third win at Penydarren Park against Ciencester Town.

A crowd of just over 400 saw Ian Traylor give the Martyrs a 16th minute lead that Rhys Baggridge doubled three minutes before the break. Jon Brown added a third to make sure with 17 minutes remaining.

Saturday saw first wins for both King`s Lynn Town, Stratford Town, Biggleswade Town, Basingstoke Town and Dorchester Town.

The Linnets saw off Redditch United 2-1 at The Walks, with Shaun McWilliams giving the hosts a great start with the opening goal inside a minute. Danico Johnson eventually equalised in the 78th minute, only for Matt Castellan to pop up with Lynn`s 87th minute winner.

Stratford inflicted a second defeat on visiting Hitchin Town by the odd goal in five.

Danny Summerfield gave the hosts a 12th minute lead that Liam Brooks instantly cancelled out. Stuart Pearson then put the Canaries in front on 21 minutes, only for Jamie Sheldon to equalised seven minutes before the break. And it was Sheldon who scored the decisive third goal for Stratford nine minutes into the second half.

Newly promoted Cinderford Town, suffered a fourth defeat in five games as Biggleswade went nap at the Carlsberg Stadium to record their first win.

It proved a good afternoon for Ihih Effiong and Tony Burnett, who bagged all the goals. Effiong opened the scoring after 10 minutes from the spot and, after Burnett had netted a brace in the 25th and 61st minutes, completed his hat-trick in the 71st and 76th minutes.

Basingstoke won for the first time since being relegated from National League South, beating fancied Kettering Town 3-0 at the Camrose.

George Hallahan bagged a brace for `Stoke in the 19th and 34th minutes, with Sam Deadfield adding the other two minutes after the break.

Dorchester produced a good 2-1 win at Station View against Banbury United to open their win account.

A 27th minute Jack Westbrook own goal set the Magpies going. Jhai Dhillon eventually doubled their lead 15 minutes from time, rendering Mark Janes` stoppage time reply as only a consolation.

Cambridge City are the only team yet to record a win so far after sharing a 2-2 draw at St Ives against relegated Hayes & Yeading United.

United led through Lloyd Macklin`s 16th minute goal right until the 63rd minute when Tunde Adewunmi equalised from the penalty spot. Nine minutes later, player-coach Erkan Okay gave City the lead which Dylan Kearney levelled three minutes into stoppage time.

Elsewhere, St Neots Town recorded a third win at Weymouth, for whom this was a third defeat.

An own goal by the Terras` player boss and keeper Jason Matthews after 29 minutes and then Jordan Patrick on 69 minutes, settled matters at the Bob Lucas Stadium in front of 512.

St Neots` neighbours, newly-promoted St Ives Town, were beaten 3-0 at Holloways Park by Slough Town, for whom Guy Hollis after 35 minutes, Charlie Moone two minutes after the break and Lee Barney on 64 minutes, were on target.

Kings Langley, who came up with St Ives as Division One Central champions, shared a 2-2 home draw with Frome Town.

Jack Waldren gave the hosts a 21st minute lead that Dan Cleverley quickly cancelled out. Lewis Toomey`s penalty restored the hosts` advantage on 27 minutes but the Somerset side restored parity with 20 minutes to go through Jake Jackson.

And it finished 0-0 between Dunstable Town and Chesham United at Creasey Park.
