However, Bristol Manor Farm, who began the day second, fell to third after they shared a nervertheless very good 1-1 draw at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium with fourth-placed Salisbury FC, leaving Bideford to slip in just behind Taunton after winning by the odd goal in five at Winchester City.
A crowd of 658 saw Dean Stamp give Manor Farm a 68th minute breakthrough.
But an 88th minute leveller from Kane O`Keefe earned Steve Claridge`s side a point.
Ben Seymour put Bideford in front after 32 minutes at Winchester, who equalised thanks to an own goal from Ian Sampson 5 minutes before half-time.
But 3 minutes after the break, Craig Duff restored Biddy`s lead, only for Ollie Bailey to level 11 minutes from time.
A second for Duff just 4 minutes later proved to be the Devonians` winner.
Wimborne Town are now fifth after hammering Slimbridge 8-1 away from home!
A patched-up, youthful Swans side missing six regular players through injury and suspension were well beaten by a rampant Magpies who showed no mercy.
Jamie Stokoe`s 15th minute opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Sean Lawson 4 minutes later.
However, that`s as good as it got for the Swans, who went into the break 5-1 down after further goals from Matt Oldring, Toby Holmes, Louis Kellaway and Billy Maybury.
Maybury added a sixth immediately after the break and, to add salt into Slimbridge`s wounds, Karl Nash summed up the home side`s day by firing a penalty over the bar in the 51st minute.
Luke Holmes and Luke Burbidge added two more for Wimborne to make the final score 8-1.
Wimborne overtook Evesham United into fifth after the Worcestershire side were held to a 1-1 draw at AFC Totton, who are seventh.

Larkhall Athletic enjoyed one of their best days of the season to date, hammering North Leigh 5-0 in Somerset.
Dan Restorick opened the scoring with a low header after 15 minutes.
Winger Alex Lambert doubled the lead on the half-hour mark with a superb turn and strike into the top corner of Manny Agboola’s goal.
The Larks were not content with a 2-0 lead and won two penalties in quick succession early in the second half, both for tugs on Cory Simpson and both dispatched by Joe Tumelty.
Although the Millers never gave up, the chances never came their way and sub Francois Allen teed up Lambert with 10 minutes to go to put added gloss to a fine performance by the Larks.
North Leigh`s neighbours Kidlington fared a lot better though, also hitting five away at Cossham Street against fourth-bottom Mangotsfield United.
And they had to come back from being a 14th minute Ed Weeks goal down too, Anaclet Odhiambo and Duran Martin both bagging braces and Ben Brown one before Cameron Allen netted the Mangos` second in stoppage time.
Bottom side Bishops Cleeve lost for the fourteenth time in seventeen games at home against neighbours Yate Town.
The in-form Bluebells had a brace from Steve Davies in the 13th – from the spot – and 23rd minutes to thank for their victory.
Josh Ford gave struggling Paulton Rovers an early 3rd minute lead at home to Didcot Town, only for the same player to inadvertedly equalise at the other end in the 15th minute.
James Byrne restored Rovers` lead and then Felipe Barcelos maintained his good scoring form by earning Diddy a point 15 minutes from time.
