Saturday's Evo-Stik South, East Round-up

By Jason Mills

The three promoted teams in the Evo-Stik League South East, Moneyfields, Hartley Wintney and Thame United, all began the new season with opening day wins at the higher level.

Moneyfields, promoted from the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier, won 2-1 at home to Kempston Rovers with Ryan Pennery after 15 minutes and Sam Pearce on 36 minutes outgunning Jake Newman`s goal on the hour-mark for the Walnut Boys.

Hartley Wintney, who came up from the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League, were 2-0 home winners over Northwood, thanks to Sam Argent`s brace in the 1st and 40th minutes.

Uhlsport Hellenic League champions Thame enjoyed a good 2-1 away win at Chalfont St Peter, whose Gary Burrell put them in front after just 3 minutes.

But the new boys battled back with Lynton Goss levelling on the half-hour mark and Tom Ashworth winning it just shy of the hour-mark.

Relegated Cambridge City started off badly, losing 2-1 at St Ives to Ashford Town (Middx), despite having the boost of an early 2nd minute Lewis Wilson opener.

But James Cottee 4 minutes after the break and then Jack Beadle on 64 minutes won it for the Ash Trees.

A crowd of 610 heralded AFC Rushden & Diamonds` return to both the league and to their home town and Hayden Road.
And they saw the Diamonds win 2-0 against Hanwell Town, courtesy of a 12th minute Nabil Shariff penalty and the same player from open play 5 minutes after the break.

AFC Dunstable started off well with a 4-0 Creasey Park win over Fleet Town, thanks to a Jermaine Hall hat-trick in the 25th minute from the spot, 34th and 57th minutes – Tom Silford sandwiched the other goal a minute before the break.

Newly-named Beaconsfield Town also hit four away at Aylesbury United`s new Chesham home.

It was goalless at the break, and then Aaron Minhas broke the deadlock for the visitors after 58 minutes and 4 minutes later a Jack Sillitoe own goal doubled Town`s lead.

Wes Daly then bagged a brace in the 73rd and 82nd minutes, with Gavin Hinds-Cadette replying in between for the Ducks.
Barton Rovers are quietly fancied to do well and they began in good style with a 3-0 win at Egham Town with goals from Josh Oliysan after 29 minutes and then two in the final minute of the match from Yemi Adelani.

Bedford Town are also tipped to go well this season, but they suffered an opening day defeat at Honeycroft against Uxbridge, whose Joe Wright on 63 minutes, Cole Brown a minute later and then Ben Peded 15 minute from time were enough, despite Lee Roache`s reply.

Isaac Osei-Tutu scored the only goal of the game at Arlesey Town that earned Marlow all three opening day points, while Hayes & Yeading United`s first home game at their new SkyEx Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw with Aylesbury FC, whose Jeanmal Prosper cancelled out Ismael Ehui`s 52nd minute opener 5 minutes later.
