Saturday's Evo-Stik League South, East & South, West Round-Up

By Jack Moore

Due to the Buildbase FA Trophy, there were only a handful of matches in the Evo-Stik League South, East and South, West on Saturday.

In the South West, Bideford moved up to fifth place in the table after a 3-1 win over Slimbridge at The Sports Ground.

And the Devonians won, despite conceding a goal inside the opening minute via a deflected effort from Joe Wilton.

It wasn`t until 15 minutes from time that the home side managed to pull level through Ryan Turner.

A fine individual goal from Ben Seymour 5 minutes later gave Bideford the lead.

And then 3 minutes into stoppage time, Seymour scored his second and the hosts` third to kill the game off as a contest.

Evesham United hosted second-bottom Mangotsfield United at the Jubilee Stadium looking to move into fourth place in the table.

But the Worcestershire side have lost their previous four home games, and looked nervy against their struggling visitors until taking a 34th minute lead when Bradley Gray found Ethan Moore, whose looping header went in just under the crossbar.

The home side failed to capitalise on that though and it came as little surprise when the Mangos equalised 9 minutes into the second half when Kane Simpson found himself with time and space to net.

Evesham mounted the pressure near the end but were unable to find a winner.

Didcot Town started the day in fourth spot and would have joined second-placed Bristol Manor Farm on twenty-five points with a win at the Total Branding Community Stadium against AFC Totton.

However, it was the Stags who triumphed to move into eighth place in the table.

First half goals from loanee striker Tony Lee after 10 minutes and Alfy Whittingham on 25 minutes saw the Stags earn their first win in four games.

Didcot pulled a goal back through Felipe Marcelos 3 minutes into the second half, but the Stags stood firm to claim the points.

The only game in the South East division saw mid-table Northwooc host second-bottom Fleet Town at Chestnut Avenue.

But any thoughts that this was going to be a stroll for the home side against a Fleet outfit who have only won twice to date this season were soon quashed as the Hampshire side battled hard in a scrappy opening period not helped by a gusty win.

The Woods took a 1-0 lead into the break, thanks to a Harry Newman effort.

However, Fleet equalised just past the hour-mark with a close-range finish from Patrick Ruzicka.

And it looked as though the visitors were going to take a point home – until a minute from the end of normal time when Tayshan Hayden-Smith crashed home a find strike to win it for Woods.
