And they ended Ashford Town's unbeaten start to life after promotion from the Combined Counties League in the process.
Dean McDonnell gave the Saints an 18th minute lead that Mark Bitmead cancelled out right on the stroke of half-time. Tony Mendy restored the visitors` lead 11 minutes into the second half and, just three minutes later, Kofi Lockhart-Adams made sure of the points with Chalfont`s third.
In contrast, neighbours Bedford Town and Arlesey Town are still searching for their first points of the new campaign.
The Eagles came into the 2016-17 season with a great deal of optimism after a good pre-season.
But their third defeat in a row, 1-0 at the New Eyrie against a Northwood side for whom this was a first win, courtesy of Louis Stead`s 29th minute effort, proves that pre-season results really do count for little.
Arlesey were also beaten at home and by another neighbour in Barton Rovers.
Rovers led through Jason Blackett`s early third minute goal right to the end of the game when it looked as though the hosts had nicked a point when Lewis Wilson equalised. But seconds later, Elliot Bailey grabbed the visitors` winner.
New boys AFC Dunstable and AFC Kempston Rovers, Potters Bar Town, Hanwell Town, Egham Town and Royston Town are all still to taste defeat in 2016-17.
Dunstable shared a 2-2 home draw with Marlow, who took the lead after 41 minutes through Isaac Osei-Tutu. Almost immediately, the hosts were back on level terms through Jermaine Hall.
Marlow re-took the lead six minutes from time, courtesy of Max Kilman, only for Dunstable to level once more through Leon Cashman.
Kempston also drew – 1-1 at Holloways Park against Beaconsfield SYCOB.
Harlem Sambu broke the deadlock to give the visitors a 68th minute lead. SYCOB pulled back level five minutes later through Nathan Minhas but were grateful to goalkeeper Jake Souter for keeping them in the game.
Potters Bar also shared the spoils against another of the unbeaten sides, Hanwell.
The home side took the lead a minute before the break when Garry Jones converted from the penalty spot. Hanwell pulled back level 12 minutes from time, thanks to Bradley Simmonds.
Egham’s second home game of the new campaign against fellow unbeaten outfit Royston Town mirrored the first as they had chances to seal a win after Zak Joseph`s 31st minute opener.
But the hosts failed to build on their first goal and were made to pay as the Crows grabbed an equaliser with a stoppage time penalty from Jack Bradshaw.
Aylesbury United and Farnborough both achieved second wins on Saturday.
The Ducks won 1-0 at Petersfield United, courtesy of a 42nd minute Jack Wood effort, while Boro secured a more comfortable 3-0 success at newly-promoted Kidlington.
Dennis Oli put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes but it wasn`t until the 73rd minute that Boro were able to relax when CJ Fearn doubled their advantage, with Ed Smith adding a third eight minutes from time.
Aylesbury FC picked up their first point of the season at Haywood Way against Uxbridge.
Two goals from former Chesham United favourite Mark Lambert after 45 and 49 minutes – the second from the spot - weren't enough to secure all three points as the Moles' inability to convert chances into goals meant a win still eludes the team.
Mitch Wiseman had given the Reds a 29th minute lead and Matty Woods equalised 16 minutes from time.
Relegated Histon also picked up their first point from a 1-1 draw at Calthorpe Park against Fleet Town.
A fine free-kick from Elkanah Sibanda gave the Stutes the lead right on half-time. But the hosts equalised through Ben White on 65 minutes.
