Saturday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

Royston Town`s lead at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Division One Central table was cut to five points on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Crows` game at Barton Rovers was off, as was the match at bottom-markers Petersfield Town, allowing Farnborough to cut the deficit after they won 3-1 at Honeycroft against Uxbridge.

But they had to come back from being a 17th minute Matty Woods goal down to win, thanks to Nic Ciardini after 23 minutes, Jack Barton on 37 minutes and Perry Coles 12 minutes from time.

Marlow are a distant third, now trailing Farnborough by nine points after they were held to a goalless draw at home by Beaconsfield SYCOB.

The battle for the play-offs includes at least six teams down to Bedford Town in ninth.

Barton Rovers and AFC Dunstable currently occupy the other two top five spots, with Dunstable dropping two home points to Bedford at Creasey Park where Nathan Frater gave the home side a 23rd minute lead.

Ryan Auger equalised nine minutes after half-time, only for Leon Cashman to restore the hosts` lead on the hour-mark. Lee Roache, who plied his trade on the same ground last season with groundsharers Dunstable Town, levelled matters four minutes later.

Kempston Rovers, Potters Bar Town and Hanwell Town all have chances to mount a top five challenge, but only the latter won on Saturday as Kempston and Potters Bar shared a 1-1 Hillgrounds draw in which Sam Macrae` 15th minute opener for the Walnut Boys was cancelled out by the Scholars` Michael Murray just four minutes later.

Hanwell won 2-0 at Chalfont St Peter, thanks to goals from Zak Joseph after 52 minutes and Joe Chandiram four minutes from time.

Second-bottom Histon`s third draw in four matches lifted them to within a point of third-bottom Aylesbury FC.

The Stutes took an eighth minute lead at the Glassworld Stadium against Northwood, only for Alex De La Salle to equalise five minutes before half-time. Fabian Brown then put Woods ahead just shy of the hour-mark but Tommy Wright levelled matters six minutes from the end.

Aylesbury lost 1-0 at home to Kidlington, whose Lewis Coyle pounced in the 64th minute.

Elsewhere, player boss Craig Davis gave Fleet Town a 16th minute lead at Calthorpe Park against Ashford Town (Middx).

Josh Harfield after 21 minutes and Rob Carr six minutes into the second half pushed Fleet too far away for the Tangerines to respond.

Fourth-bottom Arlesey Town showed some fighting spirit to battle back from 3-0 down to share the spoils with Aylesbury United.

The visitors raced into a 3-0 lead by the 53rd minute with goals from Sonny French after 19 minutes, Tre Mitford on 21 minutes and then Lee Coulter. A Jack Vasey brace – the second from the spot – and Josh Coley five minutes from time pulled Arlesey back on level terms.
