After a free weekend with scheduled opponents Hereford involved in the FA Trophy, St Neots return to action next Saturday with a visit from Frome Town. Last Saturday the Robins entertained league leaders Kings Lynn in a tight contest that finished goalless. St Neots and Frome are only two of six sides who are competing in the Premier Division of the Southern League for the sixth successive season – the others being Weymouth, Chesham, Hitchin and Redditch so our sides are well known to each other.
The Robins’ record at the Premier Plus Stadium shows one victory and a draw in five visits but a feature of our meetings has been goals. There have been 43 goals in the eleven matches completed home and away by our two sides – just one short of four per match so if that trend is maintained we should be in for an entertaining afternoon. Our most memorable meeting was at Frome four years ago when our lads lost by the odd goal in nine despite a hat trick from Shane Tolley.
Our lads come into today with only two matches completed in 2018 – our home and away drawn matches with Stratford and St Ives. Contrast that with Hereford – our original opponents last Saturday who were involved in the FA Trophy. Today their visit to Dorchester will be their SIXTH match in 2018! However, back to Frome who last season secured their best-ever finish at Step Three – eighth, and no doubt they are out top emulate that performance this season. Time will tell………….
For the visit of Frome our lads will be without Luke Knight and Johnny Herd both of whom are service suspensions, so it is a chance for the fringe members of the squad to show their abilities.
