Steve Castle is hoping former Stevenage winger Rohdell Gordon will make him forget all about the departure of James Potton.
Gordon, a former schoolboy team-mate of AFC Bournemouth star Jordan Ibe, has impressed since joining Royston Town from Hayes & Yeading last month.
The 21 year old, who has also featured in the National League for Bromley and Braintree, came off the bench to score a late winner for the Crows in Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win over promotion rivals Kettering Town.
All of which should ease the loss of attacking midfielder Potton, who was due to return soon from a hamstring injury but has now upped sticks to go travelling.
“I know Rohdell very well from my Stevenage days when I was involved with the academy,” said Crows boss Castle. “He’s a fantastic player who’s lost his way a bit but has played at a very good level.
“He has come over to us to prove he’s a worthy player, and at his best he will be a massive addition to this squad. Unfortunately we will be losing James Potton, but Rohdell is of the same mould as JP in that he can go past people.
“He can play in midfield, play 10 and play wide, so it’s a bit of a swap deal, and hopefully he can be as beneficial as JP has been. James would have been back mid-February but he’s off to South America at the start of February.
