Redditch United has continued to enhance its involvement with the local community by announcing its partnership with the town’s Army Reserves Unit and commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
To coincide with its Redditch United in the Community project, the football club and the Army Reserves are united in their vision for the town, and, therefore, a strategic partnership will benefit the community and create more cohesion within it.
The community trust has made great strides in recent months, with the project having already announced its involvement with satellite football clubs in the area. The trust has also agreed a partnership with local manufacturing company, Protex, to help deal with social issues in the town. The latest partnership emphasises the club’s commitment to the town and its local people.
Redditch United General Manager, David Tittershill, said: “It is fantastic that the Army Reserves have agreed to join us in our aim of spreading positivity throughout the town. Redditch United and the Army Reserves are at the heart of the community, and both have similar aims and objectives to help inspire and motivate young people.
“We are looking at the bigger picture, and to do this, we feel it is important to get involved with the right local institutions to maximise the potential the community trust has to offer these young people. Our youth team took part in a couple of military activity days, introducing them to army fitness and important life skills, which was a brilliant experience.”
Amongst these skills, volunteers will be taught about leadership, strategy and organisation. There are also opportunities to participate in sports, such as football, rugby and tennis.
37th Signal Regiment Army Reserves Unit Press Officer, Captain Andy Barnard, said: “By working closely with the football club, we feel that the Reserves Unit can play a big part in supporting young people and helping out their town in many positive ways. This is the start of something special and we have plans to continue into 2018. One of these community engagement events will be to get involved on a match day at The TRICO Stadium.
Alongside these plans, Redditch United also aims to offer part-time roles within the football club to those who have been or still are in the forces.
