Promotion will be worth the ordeal!

Taunton Town stewards Rob Wenham and Mike Byrne are dreaming of promotion at the end of the EVO-STIK League Southern campaign after tackling the Isle of Wight Challenge for charity.

Pictured at the entrance to the Viridor Stadium, the matchday duo are in training for the demanding two day ordeal to walk, jog and run around the entire 66 miles of the Isle of Wight coastline in aid of two cancer charities.

As devoted supporters, 'Chopper' Byrne and head Steward Wenham, right, are competing in the club's colours on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April and hoping to be back in time to see the Peacocks in the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West play-off final.

Byrne is undertaking the challenge to support charity CLIC Sargent who provide a full range of essential support and guidance to families affected by cancer through specialist care teams while Wenham is putting his body on the line for the Youth Cancer Trust, a cause close to his heart having lost his niece Rachel to multiple cancers last year at the young age of 24 after she courageously battled the disease for 18 months.

Urging fellow fans to donate whatever they can via their online JustGiving pages, Wenham told the club's website: "As 'Peacocks' fanatics we will be proudly wearing our Taunton Town colours during our challenge around the 106km route, returning just in time for our 'hoped-for' play-off Final!

"We are indebted to Taunton Town FC for their support of our efforts but we would however be highly grateful of any further support anyone can give us by sponsoring us, however small. This would assist us supporting these fantastic charities and the wonderful work they undertake."

A Peacocks spokesman added: "We hope that as many of you as possible are able to support Rob and Mike and help these two very worthy charities."
