No shortage of candidates for post

Kings Langley's officials aren't short of candidates for the vacant managerial post at the EVO-STIK League Southern club's Gaywood Park.

As the search continued to replace Ritchie Hanlon and Paul Hughes following their departure last week for EVO-STIK League Southern top flight rivals Hayes & Yeading United, chairman Derry Edgar has told fans he's been surprised by both the quantity and quality of applicants received so far.

The chairman of last season's EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central champions told www.watfordobserver.co.uk on Friday: “I can’t name people and I think it is right for me to protect people’s confidentiality. I can’t say more than there are one or two surprises in there.

“We have had a good amount of applicants. People who have coached professionally and up the leagues. That was a surprise to me, the calibre of candidates. I have been at the club a long time and have been used to having to chase and convince people to come rather than having people come to us.”

Hanlon and Hughes guided the club to three promotions in as many seasons during four years at the helm before stepping down last Thursday. Speaking before Saturday's Buildbase FA Trophy clash with Enfield Town, Edgar insisted that whoever gets the job won't be judged against them and will be given the time to bring success to the club.

Paul Hobbs, who previously managed Kings between 2009 and 2012, takes charge again as caretaker and Edgar added: “It is a tough act to follow but they will not face huge demands and expectation. We want to stay in a tough, tough league and stay clear of those relegation places. We will not be putting whoever comes in under pressure to push for play-off places and it is about staying in the division for us.”

Potential can candidates should email Edgar at: derry_edgar@hotmail.com.
