New chairman elected for Christmas

EVO-STIK League Southern AFC Totton elected a new chairman and vice-chairman for Christmas.

Well known local footballing figures Wayne Mew, pictured, and Dave Penny were voted in as chairman and vice chairman respectively at a special meeting of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West club's members last week.

Mew, a project manager in the construction industry, and Penny, a practising physiotherapist, have worked successfully together in football for nearly 20 years at Bashley, Winchester City, Eastleigh, Romsey Town and the Hampshire FA.

The double appointment in time for the club's Christmas programme, starting with a Boxing Day trip to Salisbury for the third from bottom Stags, follows the resignation of chairman Andy Straker, due to ill health, and vice-chairman Roy Edwards.

Under new team boss Louis Langdown, the Stags beat Paulton Rovers 1-0 last weekend and have lost just one of their last five league and cup games to lift spirits around the Testwood Stadium where they'll host Winchester City on Monday 2 January.

A club spokesman said: "I am sure that everybody in and around the club will wish Wayne and Dave every success in these important roles."
