The Board of Directors of the Club are delighted to announce that Richard Lavery and Paul Bastock are to become part of Marcus Law’s backroom staff for the 2018-19 season.
Richard, a tough tackling, no-nonsense midfielder, has had a long and distinguished playing career, most notably with Hinckley United, Nuneaton Borough, Tamworth, Corby Town, Nuneaton Town, Barwell, and Hinckley AFC where he was the assistant manager and player-manager last season. Richard is the new Poppies assistant manager and was delighted to take up the opportunity of having known Marcus Law for a long time.
“I have known Marcus and played against his sides for a long time now, as I have against Kettering in the past. I know what this club means to the fans and having met Marcus and Ritchie we had an excellent meeting regarding the future plans for the club, I hopefully will bring something a little different to the club and I am delighted to help push such a famous club back up the pyramid structure”.
Goalkeeping legend Paul Bastock is no stranger to Poppies fans, having played for the club during the early 1990’s, before going on to a fantastic career with Boston United, St Albans City, St Neots Town, Worksop Town, Dunstable Town, Royston Town, Stamford AFC and Wisbech Town, beating Peter Shilton’s world goalkeeping record while setting a new one of 1277 first-class appearances. Paul (who will become the goalkeeping coach) said.
“I am delighted, really buzzing with this opportunity with Kettering, who I regard as my first club, as I had my first full season of football under Peter Morris, I do have an affinity with the club. I had a great meeting with Marcus and Ritchie and was really impressed with their visions for the future of the club, first, of course, is to repeat and better last season with promotion, taking the club another step forward to the National leagues. It feels really great to be back involved, I cannot wait to get started”.
